Relationship Between Resting Metabolic Rate and VO2max in Obese Women
Kim Do-Kyung

Park Won-Ha
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship of the aerobic capacity and the resting metabolic rate(RMR) of the obese.30 normal, obese women (body mess index>25kg/m©÷ and body fat>30%) were recruited for this study. They did not participate in regular exercising programs at least 6 months. The comparison between the predicted resting values of RMR and mean values, the relationship between the body composition and RMR, and the relationship between aerobics capacity and RMR were investigated in these obese subjects and the results are as follows.1. The predicted resting values of RMR and mean values in these obese subjects were significantly different. (p£¼.0001) 2. The difference between RMR and FFM showed significant correlation. (r=0.70, p£¼0.01) 3. The difference between RMR, aerobic capacity and VO2max showed significant correlation. (r=0.68, p£¼0.01) These results suggest that weight loss program involved aerobically and resistance-training. Aerobic training increased the rate of metabolic activity of resting tissues.
